The Path Of War: Irpin (2023, 57 min) This documentary gathers the testimonies of the citizens who still live in the city of Irpin, occupied by the Russian army a few weeks after the outbreak of the conflict. As a consequence of the invasion, most of the civilian infrastructure was destroyed and the citizens were forced to hide in shelters, often left without running water, gas or electricity.

The documentary begins with the arrival of the two journalists in the city of Irpin in early April 2022, when the city had recently been liberated by Ukrainian troops. Particularly noteworthy are the testimonies of a group of neighbours who, due to the imminent collapse of their apartment, decided to move to live in the basement of the house. This filming lasted for about a year, for this, the Moldovan journalists had to travel up to 14 times to the scene to closely follow the evolution of the testimonies and their lives.

As the co-author of this documentary and journalist Andrei Captarenco says: “We want the film to be seen by as many people as possible so that people understand what is really happening in the war zones of Ukraine. At the same time, we wanted to show that although the Russian army can destroy buildings, roads, and bridges, it can never destroy people’s feelings. When in trouble, people unite and become stronger together.

Viorica Tătaru and Andrei Captarenco are two freelance journalists. Together they co-direct the documentary series “Dincolo de Nistru” (Beyond the Dniester), where in each episode they collect the testimony of an inhabitant of Transnistria and their life in this isolated region for almost 30 years. The documentary was released in July 2023 and has since won awards at various festivals.

This screening is held to commemorate the date of February 24, 2022, when the full scale war was launched and the Russian troops invaded Ukraine.
