Wine & Economics

We are pleased to welcome Dr Mikhail Freer, an economist with moldovan roots affiliated with the University of Essex and the University of Barcelona. His research applies experimental and behavioural economics to understand how people make decisions and how institutions and public policies can be designed more effectively.

Dr Freer is currently advising several European Union and neighbouring countries on tax policy.

Our conversation will focus on how tax reforms can be designed and implemented more effectively, including the role of excise duties in European economic policy.

We will also discuss why technically sound reforms sometimes fail in practice, and how experimental and behavioural economics can help governments design better, evidence-based policy.

After a short introduction, the floor will open for an informal discussion and networking over wine.
