Description
Darkness has a simple definition: the absence of light.
At this year’s concert, we wish to bring light, joy, and hope into the darkness.
We live in troubled, sometimes opaque times, when perhaps more than ever we need to remind ourselves that light exists. It is already within us; we only need to rediscover it and rekindle it. Beautiful music has the rare power to guide us toward this inner place.
In this recital, we will explore light and its absence, night and radiance, stillness and intensity. You will hear Debussy’s moon in Clair de lune from the Suite bergamasque, Beethoven’s moon in his famous sonata, beams of light in the music of Scriabin and Ravel, and of course, the unmistakable presence of Chopin.
Concert duration: approximately 90 minutes, without intermission.
