Edu-Art 2025 / Flickering Modernism (Modernism Intermitent)

Description

We invite students, cultural workers, the members of the Zemstvei community and of the independent cultural sector, as well as everyone else interested in modernist heritage to participate in Flickering Modernism: from the hill to the valley – a laboratory for experimental small-scale publishing, facilitated by Maxim Polyakov [MD] and Luiza Sim [KZ], with participation of Nataša Bodrožić [HR]. If you’d like to explore with us the urban fabric in search of modernist traces — and then experiment with an eidetic reduction of modernism’s characteristics — don’t hesitate to join in!

The workshop is scheduled to take place between October 21-25, 2025, at Zpace in Casa Zemstvei, in Chișinău. Participants are invited to attend a comprehensive program that includes a lecture followed by a discussion, a city tour with a working title „Relics of urban planning compositions” and a practical part related to search for reduction methods of the flickering modernistic heritage to a level that provides a sufficient functional minimum for a temporary artistic collective. The activities are expected to result in a printed publication that will be presented publicly in the frame of the SCA2025 / Alternative Cultural Spaces program.

Tuesday, October 21, 2025 (7:00 PM to 8:30 PM) – public lecture & discussion
Wednesday, October 22, 2025 (2:00 PM to 6 PM) – city tour
Thursday, October 23, 2025 (4:00 PM to 7:00 PM) – practical activities
Friday, October 24, 2025 (4:00 PM to 7:00 PM) – DIY publishing methods
Saturday, October 25, 2025 (7:00 PM to 8:00 PM) – public presentation

Participation fee
Participation in the programme is free of charge. We believe that access to education should be provided to all who wish to participate, regardless of their economic or social status.
