Soviet Men is a photographic project of portraits from the Soviet period collected by Vadim Tristan, depicting the sexuality and aesthetic beauty of different men in their youth.
Soviet Men in Moldovan Art offers a selection of photographs of men active in film, theater, ballet, music …
The photos were collected from the personal archives of the inhabitants of the Republic of Moldova and the Transnistrian region, as well as from the National Archive of the Republic of Moldova.
The author of the project wanted to focus on the man’s physical attractiveness, emphasizing his sexuality – a taboo for the patriarchal Soviet state. The project demonstrates the full range of masculine beauty of the Soviet man and destroys the myth that there was no sex in the USSR.
This project identifies, preserves and popularizes the country’s cultural heritage by restoring sometimes forgotten or abandoned archival images.
