Description
Classical or academic music, contrary to what many music lovers believe, is still being composed today. It’s very different from the works of Mozart or Brahms, yet we continue to call it classical music.
Over the past three centuries, dozens of musical movements have emerged, among them, minimalism. Philip Glass belongs to this very movement. A contemporary composer, now 88 years old, he is renowned for his ability to create meditative, almost hypnotic atmospheres through repetition and simplicity.
This concert is entirely dedicated to his work, specifically, a selection from his string quartets and the piano cycle Metamorphosis. Both the quartets and the piano pieces revolve around minimalism, repetitive motifs that induce a transcendent state.
On stage:
Radu Dunca – violin (RO)
Matei Antal – violin (RO)
Daniel Vots – viola (RO)
Constantin Borodin – cello
Marcel Lazăr – piano
